Happy Hour: Apple Dog Cocktail

For a whiskey to be catalogued as bourbon, these are the top 3 basic rules:
- It must be made in the U.S.
- It must be aged in new, charred white oak barrels.
- It must be at least 51 percent corn.
Bulleit Bourbon is made in Kentucky, USA and its subtlety and complexity come from its unique blend of rye, corn, and barley malt, along with special strains of yeast and pure Kentucky limestone filtered water. Due to its especially high rye content, Bulleit Bourbon has a bold, spicy character with a finish that’s distinctively clean and smooth.
- Nose: Bright with orange zest, toasted oak and vanilla.
- Palate: Further orange notes, maple, oak, followed by some warming winter spices and a hint of tobacco leaf.
- Finish: Smooth and spicy with a light toffee flavor.
It can be enjoyed on the rocks, or in cocktails such a the Old Fashioned, Gold Rush or Kentucky Mule. This time, we prepared the Apple Dog. It is a simple, easy sipping and great tasting cocktail that is perfect to introduce whiskey. Use clear apple juice and Granny Smith apples as garnish. The apple combines beautifully with the maple and spicy notes from the bourbon. If you would like to cut down a little on the sweetness you can add a splash of mineral water.
You can find Bulleit Bourbon at Vinoteca stores.
