Happy Hour: The Perfect Vodka Tonic & Infused Vodka
This post is also available in / Esta entrada también está disponible en ESPAÑOL (SPANISH)
When we think of an easy-to-make and refreshing drink, it’s hard to beat a good Vodka Tonic. Unlike the Gin & Tonic that relies on the botanicals of the gin for the addition of aromatics, the Vodka Tonic has a cleaner taste, letting the flavor of the tonic and the lemon or lime stand out, so it is important to use a premium tonic, it will give us a slightly bitter and dry flavor profile. These characteristics make it a good drink to accompany meals.
For our Vodka Tonic we used Ketel One Vodka, for this clean drink with so few ingredients it is best to use a premium vodka such as this one, and our favorite tonic is Fever Tree, not only do we enjoy the taste, but it is also free of artificial flavors and sweeteners.
As with our Gin & Tonic recipe, it is important to you that when pouring the tonic, it is done gently, tilting the glass or using the bar spoon so as not to lose the fizzing bubbles.
If you’d like to try another vodka drink check out our Salty Dog recipe.
Ketel One Vodka and Fever Tree tonic can be found at Vinoteca stores.

Vodka Tonic
Serves: 1 drink
Recipe from The Foodies’ Kitchen
Ingredients:
2 oz Ketel One Vodka
4 oz tonic water, to taste
2 lime slices, as garnish
¼-oz. fresh lime juice, optional
Preparation:
- In a collins or highball glass filled with ice, pour the vodka and lime juice (if using).
- Fill with tonic and stir gently from the bottom lifting upwards.
- Garnish with a lime wedge. Serve and enjoy.
Opcional:
- You can squeeze a piece of lime peel over the finished drink to spray the oils on it and leave its aroma.
Hibiscus Vodka Soda
This variation is prepared with sparkling water instead of tonic water, it makes it a less caloric drink. To infuse the vodka, we poured 6 oz of Ketel One Vodka in a glass bottle with a cap and add 6-8 dried hibiscus flowers. You can use a hibiscus rose tea bag as well. Leave it between 20-30 min, and that’s it!
The sparkling water we used is Fever Tree, along with Ketel One Vodka you can find them at Vinoteca stores.
Hibiscus Vodka Soda
Ingredients:
1.5 oz Ketel One Vodka infused with dried hibiscus flowers (see notes above)
4-6 oz sparkling water or club soda
a squeeze of lemon or lime
Procedimiento:
- Fill a tall glass with ice, add vodka and citrus juice.
- Stir to chill.
- Top with chilled sparkling water.
Variation:
- Muddle fruit in the glass before mixing the drink.
- Adding strawberries makes it a refreshing treat, but you can use any fruit.
