Little Foodies: Funny Face Sandwich
This post is also available in / Esta entrada también está disponible en ESPAÑOL (SPANISH)
This is a fun afternoon or light dinner sandwich you can make to surprise your kids! You can interchange the ham options for a healthier version, but do pick a round shape, which is what we need to make the sandwich face’s “tongue”. It is also a good option if you are hosting a small children’s party, they will love getting these funny faces on their plates!
This is also a good recipe to make with toddlers, you can practice what they might be learning in school about the basic shapes. The round shape of the ham slice, the square shape of the cheese slice, and after cutting it up, show them what a rectangular shape looks like! The sandwich slice forms a triangle. You can take a bit further by counting items.
At Almacenes Siman we found these colorful placemats, and they always have a wide selection of different types of plates from which to choose. They also have pretty glasses and bottles for their beverages, and there are also options for bigger kids who can handle glass rather than plastic.

Recipe idea from Pinterest
Yields 2 sandwiches
Ingredients:
White bread slices, toasted (optional)
2 slices white cheese
4 slices salami
1 small cucumber, sliced
Whole black olives, pitted and halved
Tomatoes and Arugula (optional)
Procedure:
- Cut two slices of bread diagonally so they are triangle shaped. You can toast the bread if you prefer.
- Place two slices of salami between each half of the sandwich. Make sure one is peaking out the front to create the “tongue”
- Cut each slice of cheese into 4 rectangles. Layer these on top of the salami to create the “smile”
- Place two cucumber slices on top of each sandwich. Cover them with half a black olive
- Garnish with arugula and tomato (if desired) or some chips.
