Guest Foodies: Antociano & 689 Red

This month, we continue our wine pairings with this Red wine from the US.

689 cellars is based in California, specifically in Napa Valley, one of the most popular areas in wine country. This cellar has asian influence, so much so that its name and the names of its wines, are related to the three numbers considered positive and good luck in Chinese culture.

Considering it, the number 6 represents happiness or fluidity, number 8 represents wealth or prosperity, and number 9 represents longevity or eternity. The idea of their wine production is creating combinations of different strains, so the end results can be a balanced and harmonious wine.

This red wine is a mix of Zinfandel, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Petite Sirah and Petit Verdot, a combination where the Zinfandel and the Cabernet Sauvignon are strongly featured, and that you can’t find easily anywhere else in the market.

Colorwise,  it has a light violet hue, and you can smell the aromas of both red and black fruits. When tasting, you get a soft to medium potency, where the smokey and ripe fruit flavors come into play with a soft sweetness, traditional from the Zinfandel strain.

It’s an easy-to-drink wine, recommended for those who want to explore in wine adventures, and that I usually recommend to pair with white meats prepared on the grill, mushroom pasta and mild cheeses.

This Chicken, Blueberry & Mozzarella Salad recipe pairs beautifully with this wine. The preparation and ingredients that give the chicken its flavor, welcome the smooth sweet notes from the wine, and the blueberries make us feel that they are part of the wine and bring the two flavor profiles together.

With this pairing, you can shake off the saying of white wines are served with white meats, and red wines are served with red meats.

Don’t hesitate to contact me in case you’re interested in this wine.

Buen provecho and Cheers!
