Morir Soñando

In our Baked Plantains with Cheese post I told you about two great latin recipe sites we found. This time we tried a recipe for a beverage called Morir Soñando from Dominican Cooking.
This is a popular Dominican beverage recipe, which I had not heard of in Guatemala. A friend from Colombia told me her mother used to make it for her and her brothers when they were children, so I imagine it is known in other latin countries. The literal translation means to die dreaming. It’s so dramatic, don’t you love the name?
I’ve made it about a dozen times already since we found the recipe, because my daughter and I loved it so much! The mixture of milk and orange juice is really delicious and refreshing, but you do need to follow the steps and quantities to get good results, otherwise your milk might curdle. Just make sure your milk is very cold, and stir constantly as you are adding your orange juice, this is the secret. And, use fresh oranges!
The recipe calls for sugar, but it is completely optional. If your oranges are sweet, there is no need. We added stevia to our beverage to stay on the healthy side. We’ve tried it with whole milk and skimmed milk, both are equally delicious, it’s up to you.
Let us know what you think about this recipe, which is great as an afternoon beverage for the kids!
