Eventbrite Good Eats: L’Aperó in Guatemala City

We are happy to share this post as part of Eventbrite’s Summer Food Bucket List Campaign. EventBrite is bringing communities together by making available tools for all of us to organize events and Sell Tickets. Many popular events in Guatemala are already using their tools (like FuckUp Nights Guatemala) to put together their events. You can use it as well to see what’s going on around in Guatemala city or a city where you will be traveling to. As The Foodies’ Kitchen, we are featuring restaurants in the city that break the mold and that we have had in our own Bucket List. We are glad to take this opportunity to share these places with our local and international readers.
Our first feature is L’Aperó Pizza Bistrot, located in 4 Grados Norte in Guatemala City. This is definitely not your average pizza parlor. Their artisan pizzas are made in a wood-fired oven and they have the best and most sophisticated pizza flavors you can find in the city. Their menu is short and unpretentious, but they offer a variety of original recipes for any craving. Also, they have a weekly special pizza, which you will not find on the menu.
While your pizza is being made in a wood burning oven you can sip on your favorite beer while relaxing to chill lounge music. We asked for their most popular pizza, they have two, so we ordered a pizza with half of each: De Lujo and Perazul. You can look at our entire L’Apero Gallery by clicking here or the mosaic bellow, specially the entire process of making the pizza. They make it with such care, you know you are getting the best in town!
The De Lujo pizza is a mixture of cream, swiss cheese, strips of beef, caramelized onion and persillade (a sauce made from a mixture of parsley chopped together with seasonings including garlic, herbs, oil, and vinegar), and the Perazul has cream, swiss cheese, sauteed pears and blue cheese.
These ingredients rested on freshly made pizza dough, that after being baked in a wood burning oven resulted in a wonderfully light and thin pizza crust. The taste was a refreshing surprise they were both very flavorful, and were far from the usual Italian ingredients you would expect from pizzas. De Lujo got a kick from the persillade, and Perazul has a delicate flavor with a hint of blue cheese that mixes deliciously with the sauteed pears.
We also had a taste of their salad special (they update it weekly) which consisted in lettuce, arugula, chicken, shredded swiss cheese, peanuts and the house vinaigrette. It was simply delicious. We will definitely visit them again.
