Restaurant Week Guatemala 2014

This post is also available in / Esta entrada también está disponible en ESPAÑOL (SPANISH)

We are delighted to share that Restaurant Week is back! From August 27 until September 10, 21 of the best restaurants in Guatemala City, open their doors with fixed priced menus for lunch and dinner. These menus have different choices for appetizer, entrée and dessert. The prices are much more accessible than their regular price tags. Cities from all over the world are part of this movement, and it’s the third time that Guatemala hosts one of these events. The first time was about a year ago in Guatemala City, and the second one was this last April in Antigua Guatemala.

Read more to learn about the restaurants, get link to their exclusive menus for Restaurant Week and a few tips on how to get the most out of Restaurant Week Guatemala 2014.

This year, 21 restaurants are part of Restaurant Week, an event put together by GuateDining, the Guatemalan restaurant guide. They are all offering 4 different choices for appetizer, entrée and dessert, so there’s plenty to choose from. Two of the options are for lunch, and two for dinner.

As it was last year, all of the restaurants offer the lunch menu at Q150 and the dinner menu at Q200. These prices do not include beverages or tips.

If you read last years’ article on Guatemala’s First Restaurant Week, you might remember some of our tips. This year, we are refreshing out tips so you can get the most out of this city event:

  1. Reserve Early: Some of the restaurants are more popular than others, so they will be booked up quickly. Call ahead to make reservations. Keep in mind that reservations for lunch and dinner between Monday and Wednesday will be less troublesome to get than the busiest days, Thursday to Saturday. But also, last-minute cancellations happen. If you really want to go to one of the most popular restaurants, call them even if they were fully booked a few days ago. You might score a table!
  2. Check Out The Restaurant’s Website (or Facebook Page): Almost all of the restaurants participating have websites and/or social media pages. Check them out to see if you like what they are offering if you haven’t visited them before.
  3. Understand the Price: The price fix doesn’t include drinks or tips.
  4. Tip Your Server: The price fix is great, but take in account that the entire staff are working probably overtime during Restaurant Week. Be nice to your waiter and tip them generously! They take care of you, so take care of them.
  5. Try new things: Since we have just two choices per meal, be open to try new dishes. This is part of the adventure of heading out to a participating restaurant.
